The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were established by the United Nations as a global agenda to eradicate poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all. Implementing the SDGs is a collective effort involving governments, businesses, civil society organizations, and individuals.

Businesses have an important role in the implementation of the SDGs as they have resources and capacities that can contribute to the achievement of these goals. Incorporating the SDGs into corporate social responsibility projects is necessary for the following reasons:

  1. Alignment with a global agenda: The implementation of the SDGs allows companies to be aligned with a 2030 global agenda for the planet's sustainable development, which helps strengthen the company's image and reputation with the commitment to such an urgent issue.
  2. Social responsibility: Companies have a social responsibility to contribute to sustainable development, knowing the importance of biodiversity and material resources, which are necessary for the maintenance of companies. The implementation of the SDGs is a way for companies to align themselves with this responsibility.
  3. Business opportunities: The implementation of the SDGs can generate business opportunities for companies, especially in the areas of renewable energy, energy efficiency, clean technologies, health and education. A new economy, aligned with current needs, is being born.
  4. Attracting talent: Today's young people and professionals are increasingly concerned about sustainability and the social impact of business, seeking to look at the purpose of each career choice. The implementation of the SDGs can help companies attract and retain talent that shares these values, aligned with the purpose, thus creating a greater commitment on the part of their employees.
  5. Risk reduction: Implementing the SDGs can help companies reduce sustainability-related risks, such as climate risks, regulations, and the maintenance of natural resources on the planet.

Incorporating the SDGs into corporate social responsibility projects is important not only to achieve the global sustainable development goals, but also to strengthen the alignment with the new economy, the new labor market that is being transformed in the current scenario. Thus bringing an internal and external impact to corporations.

By working on the SDGs in society, companies can create a positive impact and contribute to solving global problems such as poverty, hunger, climate change, inequality, and lack of access to education and health, urgent and sensitive issues to be looked at around us. Collaborating with this also draws the attention of consumers who are increasingly aware and demanding in relation to sustainability and corporate social responsibility.

In addition, such as reduced costs with natural resources and improved energy efficiency, thus impacting a chain of solutions for the company.

With a view to strengthening and creating solutions to collaborate with social responsibility, the Knowing the SDGs initiative addresses different programs to develop the Sustainable Development Goals together. We look at the SDGs in education, with Knowing the SDGs in schools, through workshops and artistic activities for public school students, with the goal of impacting more than 3.5 million students in Brazil.

Another initiative is the itinerancy of the Truck Knowing the SDGs, which travels from the north to the south of the country, in partnership with institutions, talking about sustainable projects and how we can adhere to the SDGs in our daily lives. And also the Festival Conhecendo os ODS, where last year 2022, became the largest sustainability festival in Latin America, reaching several countries with different themes on sustainability by several countries in Latin America.
